Early in the competition, Ignite Badminton League’s Sarah Miller spoke with Chhiv Jing Yang. Openly optimistic on night one, Yang spoke candidly about how the tournament – and the league itself – was bringing out the spirit of badminton in ways many Canadians have never witnessed before.

“IBL has given so many of us this amazing opportunity to play all year. I’m no longer a student, so with a busy job, it’s just great that I have badminton to look forward to every Sunday. And for next year’s season, I already have two teams that have asked me to join them. I’m still (in the process of) deciding which team I want to go to. But I feel really proud of myself for now, and thankful for my coaches. This year was such a success!”

When asked to give an overall summery of the 2015-16 season, Ignite Badminton League founder and C.E.O., Charles Pyne, spoke about an overall satisfaction for the year that was.

“The season has been great for IBL. There were a number of challenges and many lessons that we learned along the way. There has been a lot of growth and our brand is gaining more traction as we form new partnerships and create new bridges to unite the badminton community across Canada. The future is bright and we are ready to embrace it as we move onwards and upwards.”

IBL’s Operations Manager, Crystal Liao, mirrored Pyne’s sentiments about their second year together, leading the new League to success.

"This was a tremendous year for IBL. I loved seeing players at every level – from beginner to competitive – challenging each other in such a positive and fun way. This was only our second year (of IBL) and we can already see the growth and development of this amazing sport. I can't wait to start another truly wonderful year with IBL. We are ready to promote all levels of badminton!"

Entries for the 2016-17 season will be accepted between June 15th-August 31st, 2016. Players and groups have been given the summer to prepare their teams for IBL’s third official season.

Ignite Badminton League is already looking forward to welcoming back previous players and sponsors, and is also incredibly keen on greeting new members and supporters. With expansion and increased membership to look forward to when the IBL season resumes, its current success and forward momentum is undeniable now.
